POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. A protocol for downloading emails from a server to a local device.

Definition

POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) is an older protocol for downloading email from a server to a local device. Unlike IMAP, POP3 typically deletes emails from the server after download, making them available only on the downloading device. While still supported, IMAP is generally preferred for its synchronization capabilities.
