Double opt-in

A subscription process requiring users to confirm their email address by clicking a verification link.

Definition

Double opt-in (or confirmed opt-in) is a subscription process where users must verify their email address by clicking a confirmation link after initial signup. This extra step ensures the email address is valid, owned by the subscriber, and intentionally submitted. Double opt-in results in higher-quality lists with better engagement and is required by law in some countries (e.g., Germany).

Examples

  • Step 1: User enters email on signup form
  • Step 2: User receives confirmation email
  • Step 3: User clicks "Confirm Subscription" link
